PhD Network

At the Department of Food Science, we believe that a vibrant social life is key to both personal well-being and academic success. It fosters collaboration, sparks new ideas, and supports long-term professional growth.

That’s why we have an active PhD Student Network that brings PhD students together through a range of social and academic events. These gatherings are great opportunities to connect with peers, share knowledge, and build lasting professional relationships.

The PhD Student Network is open to all FOOD PhD students, offering a welcoming space where you can meet like-minded colleagues and feel part of a supportive community.

From networking events to informal get-togethers, our activities are designed to support both your academic journey and social life.

Got questions or ideas? Do you want to join the network? We’d love to hear from you: food_phd_network@science.ku.dk

Every other month, the sections at the Department of Food Science face off in a friendly competition as part of the ongoing FOOD Section Tournament. Each round features a new predefined activity, and participating sections earn points that are tracked on scoreboards displayed throughout the department.

At the end of the year, the section with the highest cumulative score is crowned Champions of the FOOD Section Tournament and claims the FOOD Section Trophy.

Here are some of the activities we have enjoyed in the Department:

January

Board Games Evening
An evening of fun and strategy featuring team games like Hint. A great way to kick off the year and bond with colleagues over some friendly competition.

May

Olympic Day
A playful outdoor tournament with classic and quirky challenges such as tug of war, “save the chicken,” blindfolded obstacle races, and a paper plane competition. Team spirit and laughs guaranteed!

September

Pétanque Tournament
Relaxed afternoon of pétanque. A perfect way to ease into the new semester and soak up the last summer vibes.

October

Pumpkin Carving
Halloween-inspired pumpkin carving contest to get creative and maybe a little spooky.

The PhD Student Network also hosts professional and personal development workshops throughout the year. These events offer valuable tools and insights to support life as a researcher.
