The working title of my PhD project is ‘Building Better Futures’. In this project, I explore the formation of ‘ethical’ corporations in contemporary Denmark through an examination of the intertwinement of ethics and business among cooperators. More specifically, my project explores how discussions on responsibility emerge in connection with a rising concern for the environmental impact of construction. Based on long-term fieldwork in a Danish construction company, I examine how builders working at this company perceive and perform responsibility in connection with their daily construction work and the overall organizational development of the company. In relation to the latter, I have further looked at the formation of gender inequalities in craftwork in Denmark.
Theoretically, my project builds on and seeks to develop connections between anthropological discussions on political economy, morality and social movements. I am a member of the Organizations and Economy (OREO) research group at the Department of Anthropology.
The project is funded by Laurits Andersens Fond.
