Primary fields of research

We have over the years conducted research in a wide range of topics related to persons with spinal cord injury (SCI), mostly issues that have emerged from everyday clinical practice. Therefore, these are topics in a very wide range of areas, including respiration, cardiovascular, urinary, bowel emptying, sexual function, skin, osteoporosis, spasticity, pain, aids and more. In addition, we have conducted several epidemiological studies, including on survival after SCI.
Furthermore, we have for years been involved in the international efforts to standardize the collection of information on the SCI patient, thereby promoting the ability to compare studies from different parts of the world. First, with the International Standards for Neurological Classification of SCI and especially the International SCI Data Sets, which can be used both clinically and in research context, why they have been adopted by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in USA and should be included in studies that seek support from NIH (http://www.iscos.org.uk/international-sci-data-sets & https://commondataelements.ninds.nih.gov/SCI.aspx#tab=Data_Standards).
